- At the beginning of this week we finally got our Xerox Docutech
- printer connected to the PostSCript Engine, and we can now happily
- generate output at a "real" 600 dpi.
-
- The quality is really good, but there are a few problems:
-
- The Blue Sky type 1 PostScript renderings of the Computer Modern
- fonts come out too thin. Has anybody on the net have the same
- impression (B.T.W. the same is true for the same fonts on their
- 4050/4090 300dpi printers). I talked to Xerox, and they say they
- are preparing a "patch" for this kind of behaviour (being a write-white
- engine, it seems that there is too little "black" output on the page,
- and so the gray is too white, leaving shading barely visible in some cases.
- Does somebody else have a similar experience, and could it be
- solved more or less easily (w/o having to wait for Xerox).
- Why would the type 1 Blue Sky fonts come out too light, when
- the other PS fonts (Times and friends) come out more or less normally?
-
- On the other hand I am using some MF fonts, for which I do not have the
- PostScript fonts, so I have to generate the fonts at 600 dpi for that
- printer. Does anyone on the net already the MF mode-setting parameters
- for the Docutech (or the 4135) of Xerox?
-
- Thanks for your help.
