- | Can anyone tell me if and what happens if an SGML imports a CGM graphic.
- | Can it still be editited, at least in theory.
-
- I don't really understand what you're asking about, so let me make a couple
- stabs in the dark. If I miss, please let me know.
-
- SGML is a language, not a piece of software, so SGML as such doesn't import
- CGM files. However, SGML qua language has the ability to make a reference
- to something and say that "this is in a special notation called CGM,
- defined in so-and-so standard", so that an SGML implementation that
- supports notations and supports the CGM notation may know what to do with
- it. The SGML document that contains a reference to the CGM file and
- notation information about it (and thus effectively "imports" it), will
- still be the human-readable, editable text file it was before the CGM file
- was referenced.
-
- Note also that CGM files come in three coding flavors: binary, character,
- and "clear text". The clear text files are certainly editable.
-
- Hope this helps, anyway.
-
- | Also, could someone tell me the relationship, if any, between ODA and
- | SGML. Thanks.
-
- I don't think I want to do that just now. Sorry.
-
- Best regards,
- </Erik>
