  20. Peek /poke was originally put into the Transputer for diagnostic
  21. purposes only.

  23. If you peek an address that is non-word-aligned, the transputer would
  24. have to do two memory accesses. Maybe the microcode always does two
  25. accesses, to simplicate and add lightness.
