  13. Does anybody out there use an Artecon SBus Expansion Box on a SPARCstation 2?
  14. It seems that I can't get that up and running!

  16. My Configuration:
  17.    HAMstation2X (SPARCstation 2 Clone), 3 SBus Slots
  18.    SunOS 4.1.2
  19.    Slot 1 was SPARCprinter Card, *should* contain the XBox's Adapter Card now
  20.    Slot 2 is Prestoserve Card (inserted, but not in Use yet)
  21.    Slot 3 is cgsix
  22.    Artecon SB-6000X SBus Expansion Box (six Slots, no Drive Bay)
  23.    I introduced the XBox Adapter Card into Slot 1 and connected it to the Box,
  24.    put a Power Cord to the Box, no other Wiring
  25.  
  26. My Problem:
  27.    When I try to reboot the System, it blinks the LEDs as usual until only
  28.    Scroll Lock and Num Lock are lit. Normally, it should take some Seconds,
  29.    then clear the LEDs and display the (white) Screen. With the XBox, nothing
  30.    happens, the LEDs stay on and the Screen black.

  32. My Struggle:
  33. 1. I tried to move the Adapter Card to Slot 2. No Effect.
  34. 2. I tried to change the XBox Jumpers (other SBus Clock Speed). No Effect.
  35.    (The Manual states "Jumpers numbered this Way", my Board denotes Numbers
  36.    just the other Way :-/ )
  37. 3. I removed the XBox, booted and installed the Software IN ADVANCE.
  38.    No Effect.
  39. 4. I disconnected the Box from the Adapter Card and booted. It booted fine,
  40.    but the 'fw' Software refused to configure an absent Box. (Note that, if
  41.    I addressed Slot 1, it said "No SB in current Slot 1", while the others
  42.    resulted in "No SB in Slot nn"!)
  43.  
  44. My Guesses:
  45. 1. Hardware Damage?
  46. 2. Either Artecon or Hamilton not complying to the SBus Standard?
  47. 3. Software got screwed up on first unsuccessful Attempt, now stuck?
  48. 4. XBox needs to be connected to SCSI Daisychain? (There are two SCSI Jacks
  49.    on the XBox, but the Manuals don't say what to do with them, so I left
  50.    them unused. Hell, nobody told me about SCSI Jacks, I don't even have
  51.    the additional Cable!)
