- The following is a short description to find out if anyone out there
- has had a similiar problem. Please contact me with email if you
- have had a similiar experience...
-
- We have a Sun 4/370 running 4.1.1 that has an Exabyte tape drive
- hooked to it. Writing to the drive seems to work OK but when I
- try to read from the tape it fails. It will read part of the
- tape but then it fails with errors like:
-
- sm0 Snap shot: error= 0x11 (Unexpected phase error)
- state= 0x12 (Data req), sub_state= 0x5
- esp cmd= 0x0, xcnt= 0, intr= 0x10
- ...
-
- and it says that it is resetting the SCSI bus. The only
- time the error occurs is when the tape drive is used. Reading and
- writing to the two disks on the same bus doesn't cause a problem.
-
- The setup we have has worked with no problems for a long time but now
- suddenly we are getting problems.
-
- I thought, "Great! I'll just send it to Exabyte to get fixed", but then
- we moved the tape drive to a Sun 3/50 running 4.x and it read a tape
- that it wrote just fine. This leaves me with a sick feeling as the
- 4/370 is not on maintenance.
-
- Any help would be appreciated.

-
- p.s. I have cleaned the drive plenty of times with official Exabyte
- cleaning tapes.
