- Sigh. I hope this isn't a FAQ, and I _really_ wanted to ask
- on sun-managers, but couldn't get subscribed, so I'll ask here
- instead -sorry...
-
- I've got several Sun 4/110s, which haven't been much trouble
- up until now. One of them started failing on boot - when we
- hooked up a serial terminal and put it in diag mode, we got
-
- Limited Memory Test: End of Megabyte 0x00000010. Write-Write-Read Test.
- error: address=0x000ffff8, expected 0x5a972c5a, observed 0xa568d3a5 (looping).
- Physical address: 0x00ffff8. SIMM in Error: U1603 U1602 U1601 U1600
-
- We weren't then able to get into Extended Test Mode.
-
- Then we tried swapping the (presumably) bad SIMMs with known good ones
- from another machine - you guessed it - the "good" SIMMs didn't work in
- the "broken" machine, and when we put them back in the "good" machine,
- *it* developed the same problems! So, now I've got 2 broken machines...
-
- We tried taking out 8MB and seeing if it would boot, but it wound
- up giving the same errors (though the "SIMMs in Error" were U150?,
- rather than U160?). I've exhausted my limited knowledge of Sun
- hardware, and don't really want to break Yet Another machine trying
- something else. Needless to say, none of these are either under warrantee
- (ha!) or maintenance.
-
- Does this ring any bells with anyone? Any suggestions of anything
- to try next? Am I _totally_ screwed by now? I find it odd that the
- problem could migrate to another machine in this way - are there any
- known gotchas or things we might have overlooked?
-
- Thanks. Please email - though I do try to read the group, email's
- quicker...
