  22. I received this from my local Sun SE regarding the Sun Speakerbox:

  28. Inside the speaker box is a MMCodec chip that has multiple
  29. inputs and outputs (serial bus, line input, microphone are
  30. inputs; speaker, line, headphone are outputs).  The routing
  31. of which is active is acomplished under software control
  32. via ioctl's to /dev/audio.  I believe that "audiotool" will be
  33. enhanced in future releases to provide a GUI interface to
  34. allow us "mortal users" to do what you desire without programming
  35. at such a low level.

  40. This is much the save as above, future OS releases will catch
  41. the key strokes and send instructions to the MMCodec chip to
  42. perform the task.  It's a case of the hardware features being
  43. a bit ahead of the software.  Same with the power on/off key.
  44. The SS10 power supply can be controlled by the CPU but it will
  45. take a bit for the software to catch up to the underlying
  46. functionality built into the hardware.  The good news is that
  47. the features are in the hardware to do some of these interesting
  48. things in the future.
