- Some program here keeps on leaving behind a large (greater than
- 0.5Mb) file called hvtmpBAAa06214 (letters after hvtmp appear to
- be random) in /tmp on the Sun IPXs here. Whatever's doing it is
- doing something seriously strange as the date on these files is
- always Sep 18 1991. If a couple of these files build up in /tmp
- the root filesystem becomes full (only 8Mb if assigned to /). As
- the machines are used by many different people the files invariably
- belong to someone other than yourself and the only way to rescue
- the machine is to reboot the machine (L1-A) if you're not root,
- which will clear /tmp. I searched the binaries on the machines and
- found that in helpviewer in /usr/openwin/bin contains the null
- terminated string "hvtmp". So I suspect it might be this program.
- Anyone else had this problem, if so do you know how to fix it
- (remove helpviewer)?
-
- If it's of importance the Suns are running SunOS 4.1.2 and
- OpenWindows 3 (or X11R5).
-
- Thanks for your time,
-
-
- George.
