-
- It doesn't seem to distinguish between 8200/8500 settings,
- only if compression is on/off (17.9xxMB vs 4.4xxMB available).

-
- OK under 4.1.1. Under 4.1.2 or 4.1.3 you must use /dev/nrst[8-17]
- to write in 8500 mode or you'll poop out after about 8-9 GB.
- Unfortunately neither of you indicated the version of the OS you
- used.

- True. My best case was about 15GB of mostly ASCII files.
-
- You should also fiddle with the unlit push switch on the lower
- right (as seen from the back) next to the lit switch which
- controls the data compression.
-
- Like Stan, I was satisfied with the product. I had purchased
- 5 of these units and then 2 others in a previous life.
-
- You can get 500KB/sec throughput on backups on fast systems
- SS2 or 4/470 and faster class machines, even when using rdump.
- Not recommended during the day. Firing up 2 of them will
- cause the users to scream - I speak from experience :-).
