- Hi all. We're wanting to put a postscript printer on our Sun so I was
- wondering what filter people use. To be more specific, we have a IBM
- 4029 which we can print plain text without needing any filter. But now
- our IBM also has the postscript option and we'd like to put it in
- postscript mode. And of course, if I try 'lpr'ing a postscript file to
- the printer right now, the title page for the printout will confuse the
- postscript printer hence it won't work. So I'll need a filter of some
- sort. It worked fine if I just cat the file and bypass lpr. But of
- course we don't want this. :) This was only for testing purposes.
-
- It'd be nice if we can just lpr plain text files or postscript files
- and have the filter check the file and do the proper conversion if the
- file is not postscript. But we'd be happy being able to print postscript
- files right now, and limit printing to postscript files only (have the
- user do a text-to-ps conversion manually if they want to print their data
- file, or I can do that in a csh script). I've read the Sun manuals but
- they have no info on specific printers (not even for setting up a
- generic postscript printer). So any help would be appreciated.
- Anyone wanting to share their printcap entry for a postscript printer
- would also be appreciated. :) ie. if there is anything special I should
- put in there.
-
- Thomas.
