- This is what I was told by our Local Sales Rep. and SE (quite
- literally) but it was wrong. I should know better than to trust a
- salesman (or think that he was in the know). I got the following
- reply from someone within Sun.
-
- "The "problem" is in the CPU/MMU/FPU complex itself in that it requires
- changes to the basic HAT layer of the OS. ... A 4.1.4 release would have
- been necessary. Since the resources to do an OS release are finite,
- one could have had 2.x slippage, quality reduction, etc. vs. no 4.1.4."
-
- I also understand that Solaris 2.X was supposed to be out and well
- accepted in the market place before the LX/Classics were announced.
- But as I think everyone who reads this group is aware, there have been
- a few problems with Solaris 2 ...
-
- So I apologize for any confusion that I may have caused. The BOOT
- PROM has nothing to do with it and there was no delibrate plot to
- force people into Solaris.
