  12. Dear fellow SUN Admins, my Boss has told me to start thinking about my
  13. Wishes concerning this Year's Budget Spending before HE starts wishing
  14. in my Place. I have put together some Ideas, but found that I need some
  15. more Information on several Products, and I fear that my Time is run-
  16. ning out. :-) (I don't blame my Boss, he is running out of Time with
  17. this, too.)

  19. Here are my Questions:

  21. 1) (SPARCstations)    I'm thinking about a Backup Power Supply. I found
  22.             out how much Power ELCs and HDs consume, and I
  23.             think that 1/4" Streamers and CDs won't use more
  24.             than 50 Watts, but what's the Current my SPARC-
  25.             station 2 Clone draws like? And how much will be
  26.             drawn by a SBus Expansion Box? (I've got all SBus
  27.             Slots used, but only the SPARCprinter Card has a
  28.             Connection to the "World outside".)

  30. 2) (DAT Drives)        Same Question: How much Power gets used?
  31.             (Suppose a HP 35480 A Drive in a Desktop Box,
  32.             both Standby and running)

  34. 3) (X-Stations)        Having X-Stations or diskless Clients is a Question
  35.             of Console <-> Application Data Flow Amount vs.
  36.             Application <-> Disk Data Flow Amount (my Server
  37.             is empty enough to handle several XStats). Any
  38.             Experience about where the Equilibrium is?

  40. 4) (X-Stations)        Can I have the SUN's Window Manager "take over"
  41.             the XStat's Window Manager, like I can have the
  42.             DECwindows Session Manager taking over my OW Sun?
  43.             (What I really want to know is: Do I get the
  44.             Openwindows Window Frames, their Menu, and the
  45.             Workspace Menu, or am I stuck with the XStat's
  46.             Replacements for this?)

  48. 5) (NeWSprint 2.0)    Does the NeWSprint 2.0 HP DeskJet 500 Option
  49.             (black&white) handle a 500 C (Color), too?

  51. 6) (HP PostScript Card)    I'm going to get a HP III si with PS Level 2
  52.             Card. Supposed I buy a PaintJet XL 300, which
  53.             CAN use the same Card, can I have the Card moved
  54.             as easy as a Floppy for an occasional Print on
  55.             the XL 300, or does this involve "hard Hat" Work?

  57. 7) (SPARC Laptops)    We need a SUN-like Computer which can be taken
  58.             elsewhere to run Demos of our Software. 'Til now,
  59.             we use an ELC with 40 MB RAM, a 600 MB Disk, and
  60.             a 1/4" Streamer (just in Case :-). This is quite
  61.             a Burden. However, the HDs of SPARC Laptops I've
  62.             seen are quite small (120-240 MB). Do you know
  63.             about
  64.             a) Laptops with bigger HDs built in,
  65.             b) Laptops with SCSI Interface built in, and/or
  66.             c) other Drawbacks of Laptops than Disk Space?
  67.             (I can't restrict the Type of Software we will
  68.             have to demonstrate, sorry.)

  70. 8) (NFS in 4.1.2)    I've heard that in the very Moment when a Filesys-
  71.             tem gets exported with more than 10 Clients named
  72.             as allowed for Mounting, NFS erroneously allows
  73.             ALL (local) Nodes to mount the FS. Is this true?
  74.             If yes, are there any Workarounds or Patches
  75.             available?
