  19. I had exactly the same problem, and found that a solution was to have
  20. uugetty running on the port, through an entry in /etc/inittab.

  22. Private Email from them 'elpful souls at SGI was inconclusive, and did
  23. not solve the problem. Actually, it was not really a problem for me as I
  24. usually have uugetty running, but when testing the modem with Sams fax
  25. software I had to switch uugetty off, and that is when I noticed it.

  27. If it helps, faxd in the flexfax package also 'enables' uucico as well.

  29. Maybe my modem swings on some lines it shouldn't.

  31. And yes, permissions are OK all round, and nothing else is using
  32. /dev/tty[dmf]2. I have a full house modem cable. Honest. Switch on
  33. uugetty, it works, switch it off, it doesn't.
