- I've hooked up our SGI CD-ROM (a Toshiba XM 1971) to my 486 using an
- Adaptec 1542B. The CDROM is a normal, bare SCSI device in all ways
- except one. If your system asks it what kind of device it is, the
- CDROM states that it is a fixed hard drive! I understand that this
- is done because the older SGI machines will only boot from a tape or
- fixed drive, and not a removable drive.

- I'm running 386BSD so I was able to do some things in my system to
- get the drive working. I'm not sure if it's possible to get it
- working through any other system.
