- We have an Indigo Elan, and want to install a terminal on a
- different floor, so that it appears to a user sitting at the remote
- terminal that they are sitting at the console. Our building
- is wired for appletalk, and the rooms have access to ethernet
- ports.
-
- So what do I need and what does it cost? Do I get another 19"
- monitor and keyboard from SGI and somehow wire them to the Indigo??
- Presumably the remote terminal would need network hardware and
- software, and some amount of display software as well.
-
- Three paths occur to me:
-
- -- go with whatever sgi has available. I don't know,
- and my rep hasn't yet gotten back to me.
-
- -- use a Macintosh. We have Macs w/ large displays, but they seem
- way too underpowered to do any kind of intensive graphics.
- Can they be made to work, and what kind of additional software and
- hardware would be needed?
-
- -- buy a new color workstation. Seems like an expensive way to
- go, but I'm assuming I need something to run x-windows in order
- to exactly emulate the Indigo's console. is that true, and if
- so what do I need?
-
- Apologies for the naievte, and thanks for any help.
