  23. Unless I am quite mistaken you are over Apples and oranges (EO's).
  24. If I understand Apple's propaganda, Newton will only be able to use programs
  25. which are loaded on a PCMCIA cards.  You can't attach it to a keybard, and
  26. it has been criticized as being a very expensive competitor to the Casio 
  27. B.O.S.S.  The point being that many of the tradional paripherals found with
  28. a computer system are notable absent.  Even Apple's propaganda treats the
  29. newton like a glorified notebook/personal information manager(PIM).
  30. Just because it can crunch numbers real fast, doesn't make it a "personal"
  31. computer.

  33. I have a VCR that can be programmed, some might argue that it's a computer,
  34. but its really a consumer electronic product.  It's a product for the 
  35. computer illiterate (not me I just can't spell).

  37. EO on the otherhand is a computer with a hard disk, modem ports, and an
  38. operating system.  It loads programs into memory (fairly subtly, but more
  39. obviously than Newton). According to EO's propaganda (which I devoured today),
  40. their products are personal communication tool (Any computer that comes with a
  41. cellular modem option has got to be a communication tool).

  43. EO's are slated to run 2 to 3 times as much as Newtons (out of the box).  
  44. But the people using them are going to already know that they need the power
  45. of the computer.  Newton owners may very well be a bunch of ignorant
  46. folks who enjoy Doug Henning Magic shows (Thank you).
