- I've been in the process of installing a Netware 3.11 LAN 100 user
- utilizing a DFI 486/33 EISA Fileserver, an Adaptec AHA1740 SCSI
- controller, an SMC Elite32 Ethernet card, 24MB RAM, a Maxtor 1.4GB
- drive (not sure of model since I'm writing this from home - the
- work day just never ends, does it?), and an assortment of other
- cards (UPS Monitor Card, I/O Cards, Monochrome Monitor Card).
- The Adaptec card is set to run at enhanced mode, with the BIOS
- enabled at C800 (In Slot 1). When I configure the computer to
- use the full 24MB, as soon as Netware tries to mount SYS I get an
- abend (parity error generated by the system board, I believe).
- When I configure the computer for 16MB, everything is fine. I
- know Adaptecs have a rep for not liking memory above 16MB in the
- 15xx series, and setting the BIOS at c800 alleviates this problem,
- but any ideas what the solution may be for an EISA machine? I
- tried reducing the transfer rate and turning off synch negotiation,
- among other things. Adaptec tech support is basically clueless.
- One thing I noticed this evening is that the drive is set for ID 6,
- but this isn't supposed to matter in enhanced mode (at least for
- DOS, since the drive boots up OK). Any suggestions would be greatly
- appreciated.

- Preferably, e-mail me at the below address, or post a reply to this
- group. Thanks in advance.
