- We are running NetWare v3.11 on an RS6000 with a bunch of PCs and
- two printers defined. These printers are actually hanging off
- the AIX side of things and are gotten to by the pc users via the
- PSERVER and RPRINTER processes.
-
- The problem we see is that a user tries to print a job but the
- queue is stalled. A quick check shows that the PSERVER process has
- gone away, and in some cases the RPRINTER process has also gone bye-bye.
- Restarting these processes does not seem to be good enough; the queue
- is still stalled, and the first job shows some very large record count
- and a garbled name.
-
- We have tried killing off all of NetWare on the 6000 but this does not
- work. What does work, but is unacceptable is that we must purge all
- print files and then restart all of Netware.
-
- Q: Has anyone else seen this problem?
-
- Q: Who is killing off the PSERVER process? Actually, one of the log
- files shows that WATCHDOG has killed PSERVER on occasion. Can
- WATCHDOG be trained not to do this?
-
- These are low-usage printers (a couple of jobs a day) but this problem
- happens several times a week. Our last attempt to correct this problem
- was to simply find the queues on the AIX side and kill off the print files.
- We won't do that anymore! After doing an "rm" on the files the queues
- were unusable; we have actually had to define two new queues in order to
- print. Misplacing our Netware for AIX printer manual hasn't helped much
- either. On the topic of books, are there any *good* books (red or otherwise)
- that give a good in-depth understanding of the internals of Netware?
-
- Thanks in advance...
