  11. We are running a Netware 3.11 server with Netware NFS v 1.2
  12. loaded to support anonymous ftp.  Our purpose in doing this
  13. is to operate a public access site for distribution of public
  14. affairs materials from JPL's space missions (it's at
  15. pubinfo.jpl.nasa.gov (128.149.6.2), if anyone is interested).

  17. In the 24 hours since the site was announced, we've had
  18. more than 500 ftp connections.  A couple of users have sent
  19. me email about specific problems:

  21. -- A couple of people say that some Unix commands don't work.
  22. If I ftp to the site from a Unix host, I can use either "ls"
  23. or "dir" to get a directory listing.  However, if I try options
  24. with ls (say, "ls -la"), it doesn't work.  A user in Germany
  25. connecting from a Unix host said he couldn't get ls to go
  26. at all.  Finally, another user said he was trying some Unix-
  27. style features like recursive directories that didn't work.
  28. Is there any clear documentation anywhere on what commands
  29. FTPSERV.NLM accepts that I can pass on to these folks?

  31. -- One user wonders if we can do a re-sort on some of the
  32. directories so that the index files are easier to spot.  I
  33. have a utility called nds.exe which supposedly does a 
  34. directory sort on a network directory, but I notice that
  35. sometimes the changes don't seem to take.  In the past I've
  36. been led to believe that this has to do with the Novell OS's
  37. dynamic directory space allocation or something along those
  38. lines, and that there "isn't" a way a directory can be
  39. re-sorted and changes written.  Is this the case?  Is there
  40. any hope of having a capability in the future (i.e. perhaps
  41. Netware 4.0)?
