- ==============================================================================
- Hi everyone,
-
- Before I spill any more tears, I'd be grateful for advice. I have
- a HP-Laserjet 2P connected (via parallel port) to our 3.11 file
- server. This happily served our DOS machines for some
- time, and even our Macs could use it (via a product called MOSAIC FOR
- MACINTOSH (Insight Corp.)), though at some loss in print quality.
- (Macs are connected via a DL2000 card and Netware for
- Macintosh v3.011)
-
- Then I wanted to give our DOS users the benefits of the HP PostScript
- cartridge, and after creating some new print jobs with PRINTCON, this
- is working superbly.
-
- Unfortunately, I am having problems with printing from the Macs.
- Initially, I'd thought that this would be a doddle, cause aren't
- Laserwriters et al PostScript-based? Well, I followed the
- instructions in the NW4M book and set up an entry in the ATPS.CFG
- file as follows;
-
- -o HP2P-PostScript_Q -l -wb -s -f hplaser
-
- OK, my problems start here...
-
- 1) What printer icon should I choose in the Macintosh Chooser?
- The LaserWriter one works, in a fashion...
- Some fonts are not correctly reproduced; I assume that this
- is a result of differences between the inbuilt fonts of my
- PostScript cartridge and the *real* LaserWriter.
-
- 2) Can I download a Mac chooser icon which looks like a HP2P from
- anywhere?
-
- 3) How does the Mac get to know what fonts are available in a
- Netware-served printer?
-
- 4) Should someone use a font which is not part of the HP/PostScript
- set, how does the Mac download it? (I'm not a PostScript guru,
- you can tell...)
-
- 5) Finally (and confusingly) the Netware for Macintosh book says
- (Table 8-8, p264) that the "Normal form is associated with all
- Macintosh print jobs". I created a form called Normal with
- form no. 20, and this is fine for the DOS-generated print jobs.
- However, ATPS-generated printout always requests form 0, which
- is SO ANNOYING that I've not told our Mac users how to access
- this printer. I'm already using form 0 for something else...
-
- OK, Thanks everyone in advance,
-
