- Warning to LAN WorkPlace for DOS 4.1 users concerning
- Domain Name Resolution:
-
- I recently installed LWP for DOS 4.1. This newer version was auto installed
- in C:\NET, whereas the older version was auto installed into C:\XLN. I
- deleted the C:\XLN directory. After installation I noticed that programs
- built using the older toolkit (basically, everything that didn't come with
- the LWP package) could not do domain name resolution. These programs
- include:
-
- TN3270 for LWP Version 3 Release 3.13A (from Novell)
- Gopher for LWP
- PCPINE for LWP (alpha version)
-
- It turns out that applications built with the older toolkit still require an
- evironmental variable to be set so that the toolkit routines can find the
- RESOLV.CFG file. So set EXCELAN=C:\NET, in order to get name resolution.
- Without this variable, older toolkits still look for RESOLV.CFG in the
- old default directory of \XLN.
