  14. We recently purchased a Mac iiVX with 
  15. System 7.1 from Canon in Tokyo. Today, 
  16. after an _attempted_ fix of the CD-ROM 
  17. drivers by Canon, it will no longer 
  18. boot, giving the message

  20. ╥This startup disk does not work on 
  21. this Macintosh model. Use the latest 
  22. Installer to update this disk. (System 
  23. 7.1 does not work on this model; you 
  24. need a newer version that does.)╙

  26. at system startup. Our Canon rep. 
  27. tells us that this is a known bug in 
  28. 7.1 and that patches or upgrades will 
  29. not be available until end of Feb/Mar. 
  30. Is any/all of this true?? What are the 
  31. workarounds (if any)? Have Apple 
  32. fucked up totally?

  34. I╒ve been in Tokyo a while and am 
  35. almost completely _out of touch_ with 
  36. the Mac system scene in the _real_ 
  37. world. Please help!
