- This is a somewhat technical question that I need help with:
-
- Early last year I purchased a used 512ke, with external 800k,
- and an Imagewriter I. A few months later I use using it and
- all of a sudden the screen went out and it produced a very
- bad smell, comming from the cooling vents on top. I brought
- it into the local Mac dealer the next day and they said that
- it needed a 'power/sweep board' I blew 161.99 for the board
- and $30 for .5 hours labor. Quite costly but I use the machine
- to mainly call our mainframe, so memory and color, etc are not
- neeeded, yet ;).
-
- After I got it back, about a week later, the screen blanked out
- again! I brought it back, and they said the tech who fixed it
- did not adjust the voltage correctly. So they 'adjusted power
- supply voltage level' and once again the mac was working.
- however, following this last visit, I ocassionally got sad
- mac's upon boot. All of these were ROM related, a few I wrote
- down are: 0101C0, 010010, 010113. This only happened once in a
- while, so I dealt with it. Now once again, about 4 1/2 months
- later, it died AGAIN!!! The same thing, I was on and the screen
- just went blank and nothing.
-
- I have a surge pprotector, so I don't think it was a surge, spike,
- etc...I can't afford to keep shelling money into this old
- relic, however it does wonders for word processing and telecommunications
-
-
- Anyone have any idea what to do? What is the warranty on my power
- supply they replaced. I am consulting all of you before I
- bring it back to the shop ONCE AGAIN, so I know whats going
- on.
-
- THanks for any helpful information!!
-
- Cheers,
-
