- I'll have to call you on this one. That statistic (65 cents per dollar)
- is BULLSHIT. Do you know what goes into it? Well, let me give you a
- run down on what it does take into consideration, and more importantly,
- what it ignores:
-
- 1. It includes full time workers. Full time is defined to be anything
- over 30 hr/wk. Women tend to work less than 40 hr/wk, men more. People
- holding more than one job are treated as if only holding one job, but
- with the same income as all their jobs.
-
- 2. It doesn't control for experience. Should someone with two years
- experience be paid the same as someone with 20?
-
- 3. It doesn't control for educational background. Should a high school
- gradute be paid the same as someone with a Ph.D?
-
- Other studies that do control for such things indicate that *single*
- women earn 90+ cents on the dollar compared with *single* men. And
- in some fields, may earn *more* than their counterparts.
-
- It's a damaged statistic, and deserves to rest in peace.
-
- Oh, and since we're discussing what's grating, ever notice that when
- people talk about women, they say "women", but when they talk about
- men there are times when they refer to them as "males"? That grates
- me no end.
-

-
- Yes. soc.men, soc.women, soc.feminism and alt.feminism are perfered.
- Do note that soc.feminism is moderated, and last I'd heard, was
- moderated by feminists.
-
- Followups to alt.feminism, set 'em as you like.
