  11. Hi,   I've just been loaned my first Mac, and need some help.
  12. I downloaded files  xxx.sit.lqx  from an ftp site via
  13. Unix then to my PC, and copied the DOS files to the Mac via
  14. Apple Exchange.  The Mac thinks they are documents rather
  15. than applications, and I can't unpack them.
  16.  
  17. When I dump the files under Unix the first bit of the file says
  18. that these files need to be coverted by  binhex4.  I also fetched
  19. that from ftp  (I fetched a version with the .bin extension).
  20. So I have
  21.      binhex4.bin
  22.      Stuffit.hqx
  23.      other_files.sit.hqx
  24.      Kermitxx.hqx
  25. and the Mac thinks they are all documents.

  27. How do I turn the binhex file into an application, or how can I
  28. convert an hqx file otherwise.   (The person who loaned me the
  29. Mac thinks that there may be a Stuffit already on the system
  30. somewhere, but I couldn't find it.  Needless to say, nothing 
  31. responds to any number of double-clicks, swearing, or even more
  32. adventurous attempts to change the file type to APPL via
  33. Laplink, etc.)

  35. What is the next step to get myself an executable version of binhex
  36. or Stuffit?
