- Hi, I've just been loaned my first Mac, and need some help.
- I downloaded files xxx.sit.lqx from an ftp site via
- Unix then to my PC, and copied the DOS files to the Mac via
- Apple Exchange. The Mac thinks they are documents rather
- than applications, and I can't unpack them.
-
- When I dump the files under Unix the first bit of the file says
- that these files need to be coverted by binhex4. I also fetched
- that from ftp (I fetched a version with the .bin extension).
- So I have
- binhex4.bin
- Stuffit.hqx
- other_files.sit.hqx
- Kermitxx.hqx
- and the Mac thinks they are all documents.
-
- How do I turn the binhex file into an application, or how can I
- convert an hqx file otherwise. (The person who loaned me the
- Mac thinks that there may be a Stuffit already on the system
- somewhere, but I couldn't find it. Needless to say, nothing
- responds to any number of double-clicks, swearing, or even more
- adventurous attempts to change the file type to APPL via
- Laplink, etc.)
-
- What is the next step to get myself an executable version of binhex
- or Stuffit?
-
- Thanks
- Peter
