- I just bought version 1.0 of the American Heritage, which includes
- Roget's Thesaurus II. It defines 116,000 words, and it's OK for the
- MacConnection price of $55. WordStar (800-227-5609) will upgrade to
- the "professional" or "college" (same thing) edition for $49.95 plus
- shipping. Weirdly, WordStar's subsidiary, The Writing Tools Group
- (800-843-2204) will do the same upgrade for $39.95 plus shipping. You
- figure it out. The small one needs 3MB disk space. The big one needs
- 11.5MB after installation, but an extra 2MB or so during installation
- for temp files (in other words, about 14MB free for install, 11.5MB to
- live in).
-
- MAJOR CAVEAT: I got bitten by this. Version 1.0 (the small one
- defining 116,000 words) insists that its database files be found in
- the System Folder *of the boot volume* and NOWHERE ELSE. I'm booting
- my PowerBook from a RAM disk, and thus cannot use the dictionary.
- This filepath problem with the desk accessory (which is what you use
- to access the dictionary) is fixed in the big version.
