- Greetings.
-
- Is there any reaaal problem with connecting any basic (non-fax, voice
- mail) modem to a Mac? With modems being as inexpensive as they are and PC
- modems being more so than "Mac" modems it seems an inexpensive way to go,
- even if I need to buy a cable (<$10) and software. Besides I have two
- modems at home that I used with an Atari ST so just cable and software is
- real inexpensive option.
-
- Barring the use of an inexpensive modem, my next step would be to get one
- of the multi-purpose modems (Prometheus Ulimate Home Office, Quicktel Xeba,
- Supra) in the $300 - $400 range. I've read the reviews in the mags, and
- their tests are fine and dandy, BUT they were just tests and didn't seem to
- reflect the big picture. So of those of you owning any of the
- multi-purpose modems, a few questions in need of answers:
-
- 1- Are they reliable?
- 2- Any major problems?
- 3- Would you buy the one you did if you had it to do over?
- 4- Does the software that comes with it work?
- 5- Does the fax side work well? Send/receive well?
- 6- Does the voice mail set up work well? Problems, smiles, or heartache?
- 7- Can I set it up or do I have to find some 11 year old to do it for me?
- 8- Can I live with a single phone line, a multi-purpose modem, and a
- 16-year old daughter without losing my sanity.
-
- Thanks. And I'll post summary if I get any answers.
