- I just got a new Deskwriter for my LCII, but am having a problem
- with it not responding to print commands. It passes its self-test
- with no problem; I've gone thru the driver installation sequence
- twice; it's directly connected to the Mac over a generic straight
- DIN-8 cable; I selected the serial driver icon with AppleTalk off;
- it fails to respond in both foreground and background modes with
- a dialog box "printer not responding. check all connections".
-
- I called the HP support number, and was told that "not all serial
- cables are created equal" and to try an HP or Apple cable, which
- are shielded. Before I spend $20 on a brand-name cable, has
- anyone out there encountered a similar problem?
-
- Some more notes: the failure occurs on the Mac's printer and
- modem ports; all of the driver files are in place, and the "preview"
- option works OK.
-
- Any advice would be appreciated.
