  22. In the Mac word people use the word "resolution" a bit differently
  23. than in the PC world.

  25. In the Mac world, screen resolution is almost always 72 dpi (dot per
  26. inch) or very close to this.  The number of pixels on the screen is
  27. determined by how big the monitor is.  A 13" monitor can display 640x480
  28. pixels at roughly 72 dpi.  A 16" monitor can display 624x832 pixels.

  30. Mac folks stick with roughly 72 dpi screen resolution (for the most
  31. part - there are a few exceptions) because this provides WYSIWYG (what
  32. you see is what you get) between screen and printout.  Also 72 dpi
  33. is what the software expects.

  35. TO get mor resolution on a Mac display you get a bigger monitor.
