- In a previous article I wrote:

- Hades answered:
- | They do? Since when? The only thing that Apple has ever let the user
- | install is the PDS/NuBus adaptor for the IIsi. You weren't even able to
- | install the expansion card once you had installed the adaptor. Nothing
- | that might be in danger from a static discharge is "officially"
- | installable by a non-lisenced Apple Tech. And since you can't open the
- | normal Powerbooks without voiding the warranty you can bet your life
- | that Apple won't allow you to open the ultra-new ultra-small Duos.
-
- From the Apple Resource Guide, Technical Information supplied with the
- literature that came with my 230 duo:
-
- RAM configurations
- All models ship with 4 MB. Additional RAM, up to 24 MB, can be installed
- by means of a memory expansion card. RAM chips must be rated at 70 ns
- access time or faster.
-
- Important: Don't attempt to install your own RAM card unless you are
- comfortable working with electronic equipment. Insallation instructions
- are provided with Apple's RAM cards for people who want to install the
- car themselves. If you don't want to install your own car, any authorized
- Apple dealer or service provider can install it for you.
-
- Warning: Opening the computer's case for any purpose other than to install
- a RAM card will void your warranty. Do not modify any other componenets
- or attempt to repair the computer yourself.
-
- ..........
-
- So it appears that the owner of a duo can install memory... but
- can not install the express modem.
