- Hi, I'm a long time Dos user who is going to be buying a new computer
- in a few weeks. I have been looking at Macs and they look like really
- nice computers. The only reservations I have about buying one is that
- it seems like they don't have resolutions higher then 640*480. Unless
- you want to get the video board from NEC or some other expensive
- solution. Is this true? If I'm paying $3000(cdn) I would expect higher
- resolutions then 640*480. Could someone clear this up for me please.
- Thanks in advance.
-
- It all depends. The Quadras have higher resolution, most
- of the others are 640x480x8 bits, although the IIsi and IIci
- will drive a 4 bit deep portrait monitor 640x860. But the quadras
- start at a fairly high price.
-
- Reasonable video boards that drives large monitors seems to
- cost in the 300 -> 500 dollar range (US) depending on depth and
- resolution. You can even get a pretty nice color portrait
- pivot from Radius for around $900 (US).
-
- In any case, wait for the February batch to arrive and reevaluate.
- I hope Apple considers going to a higher resolution standard.
