- I have had a 44MB Syquest for a long time. I like it a lot, but there are
- some drawbacks. The biggest problem is that sometimes cartridges go bad.
- I've had two so far that just died. It's wierd because the cartridge is
- just the platter, but these "dead" cartridges will no longer format on a
- Mac or a PC.
-
- Actually, the software that came with my drive and several other Mac HD
- formatters appear to successfully format the dead cartridges, but I get
- big time errors as soon as I use them. Silver Lining, however, clearly
- showed repeated and new errors on every format test pass, so there was no
- question of the disk being useless. I use nothing but Silver Lining now.
-
- That's a scary problem when you've got 44 (or 88) megabytes on one disk. I
- don't know if flopticals are more reliable, but common sense says they
- should be.
-
- Another plus for flopticals is that a disk is much easier and cheaper to
- mail. They could become very popular with service bureaus.
