- : I saw $220 per cartridge and bought a 128MB magneto optical drive
- : instead (with <$40 cartridges). I believe the drive is somewhere
- : around $700-$800.
-
- I also ended up buying a 128 MB MO, even after being very impressed
- with the shock resistance of the Bernoulli 150 at Macworld Expo.
-
- MO: $1200 + $40 per 128 MB disk
- Bernoulli: $800 + $220 per 150 MB disk/cartridge
-
- Crossover in cost occurs at about 500 MB of total storage (both drive
- types come with one cartridge). As I already have 6 disks (768 MB,
- unformatted), I'm already ahead of the Bernoulli option.
-
- I got the APS drive, with the Epson mechanism. Speed is good (I won't
- post an exhaustive analysis, as I've only done a handful of tests).
-
- Another key factor is that the MO standard is supported by a dozen or
- more companies, while Bernoulli is a proprietary technology of Iomega.
- Who knows what'll happen to them over the next several years.
-
- Hope this helps your decision.
