- True, there isn't *that* much software, yet. Hardware's getting better.
- NeXT's now have an adb keyboard bus, so they can use most Macintosh adb
- peripherals (as long as they don't require a software driver).
-
- Of course, if you're *writing* software, it's a very, very nice platform.
- And the software is coming out. Hell, there are already four renderman programs
- announced, if not more (two shipping, maybe three). There are a gaggle of
- spreadsheets on the way, with at least one shipping other than Improv now.
- for desktop publishing there's Framemaker, PasteUp, Pages (on the way) and I
- believe more. There's a few Photoshop-like apps. There's Adobe Illustrator and
- Altsys Virtuoso (i.e. Freehand).
-
- And best of all, most commercial NeXT apps have demo versions on the ftp sites.
- How many Mac commercial apps have free demos available on sumex? (Actually,
- I'm curious: are there any? I haven't looked)
-
- I think this year will be a big year for NeXT software. NS486 will increase
- the installed base substantially, providing a greater stimulus for development.
