- I just bought a Performa 600CD, and have a question about something I read on
- it. I know the Performa doesn't have a math coprocessor or a cache card. The
- former can be added, but the latter couldn't because "the Performa 600
- does not support cache-enable -disable functions ..." Can anyone explain
- this? Is this a hardware or software problem? What I'm wondering is whether
- I can replace System 7.1P with regular 7.1 (or 7.0.1* for that matter) and
- get the ability to use a RAM cache card. If so, the next question is whether a
- RAM cache for a CI could be put in the 600: is the card dependent on the
- system clock, would it fit the "accelerator slot" in the Performa, is this
- the same as the non-Nubus slot in the vx, or are there other reasons why this
- won't work, ...
-
- These questions arise because I bought a Performa 600CD for $2300. It's
- performance is fine for home use, so there is no immediate need to speed it up.
- However, it would be nice if I could bring it up to ci/vx performance for
- less than the price of a vx (yes, I'm trying to get something for nothing).
-
- Any help would be appreciated; respond via news or send e-mail to
- dwj%fns-nc1@mcnc.org (or the return listed in this posting).
