  12. I've never used the auto assign myself...so I can't couche
  13. for it working. I might suggest that you FIRST save the Clinet
  14. file before you go to the included layout. By saving it, may make it
  15. accessible to the AD file.
  16. What I usually do is create a separate file to generate unique
  17. ID numbers for a file. Then I use an assign command when the
  18. related file is created...i.e.
  19. Create Client in the input layout. This does NOT automatically
  20. create a new AD file.
  21. Next, create a new AD file, either automatically upon a new
  22. Client file, or when the input AD layout is opened. (I test
  23. to see if the unique ID number filed is empty, if so I assign
  24. it the ONE file unique ID number). 
  25. Next save the AD file.
