- Anyone else out there using Norton's Essential for Powerbook (NEP) on a PB100?
- I'm having a problem with one of its features, which perhaps one of you could
- help me verify.
-
- In the battery saver module, it allows one to adjust something called
- "Minutes Until Processor Rests". Supposedly, this allows one to set
- the interval in which the machine would shift it's CPU clock rate down from
- 16Mhz to 1 Mhz (on a PB100) when the machine detects no user I/O.
-
- Using a little program (Edison) that continuously displays the CPU
- clock rate, I timed this interval at 15 seconds without NEP installed
- (just like the Power Manager chapter in Inside Mac VI said it should be)
- With NEP installed, and setting the "Minutes Until Processor Rests" value
- to N seconds, I measured the actual rest interval as N + 15 seconds;
- ie, setting this value to 5 seconds (the minimum allowed) actually made
- the rest interval 20 seconds, 5 seconds more than normal!
-
- I've already faxed a problem report to Symantec's tech support and also
- talked with one of them directly to discuss this problem (about 2 weeks ago),
- but the person I spoke with hadn't heard of this behavior and they
- haven't come back to me with a resolution.
-
- I don't know if this problem is just related to PB100's in general or
- specifically to my setup (PB100 8/120 w/vanilla system 7.0.1, no other inits
- besides NEP)
-
- Also, can someone using Connectix' CPU or Bill Steingberg's PBTools verify
- if these programs correctly sets the "Minutes Until Processor Rests" interval?
- Thanks.
