  16. Anyone else out there using Norton's Essential for Powerbook (NEP) on a PB100?
  17. I'm having a problem with one of its features, which perhaps one of you could
  18. help me verify.

  20. In the battery saver module, it allows one to adjust something called
  21. "Minutes Until Processor Rests". Supposedly, this allows one to set
  22. the interval in which the machine would shift it's CPU clock rate down from
  23. 16Mhz to 1 Mhz (on a PB100) when the machine detects no user I/O.

  25. Using a little program (Edison) that continuously displays the CPU
  26. clock rate, I timed this interval at 15 seconds without NEP installed
  27. (just like the Power Manager chapter in Inside Mac VI said it should be)
  28. With NEP installed, and setting the "Minutes Until Processor Rests" value
  29. to N seconds, I measured the actual rest interval as N + 15  seconds;
  30. ie, setting this value to 5 seconds (the minimum allowed) actually made
  31. the rest interval 20 seconds, 5 seconds more than normal!

  33. I've already faxed a problem report to Symantec's tech support and also
  34. talked with one of them directly to discuss this problem (about 2 weeks ago),
  35. but the person I spoke with hadn't heard of this behavior and they
  36. haven't come back to me with a resolution.

  38. I don't know if this problem is just related to PB100's in general or
  39. specifically to my setup (PB100 8/120 w/vanilla system 7.0.1, no other inits
  40. besides NEP)

  42. Also, can someone using Connectix' CPU or Bill Steingberg's PBTools verify
  43. if these programs correctly sets the "Minutes Until Processor Rests" interval?
