  15. I want to connect a Quadra 700 and a IIci with an AppleTalk network so
  16. that I can use filesharing to transfer ~100 megs of stuff between
  17. them.

  19. On both machines I'm running System 7.0.1, Network Control Panel 3.0,
  20. AppleShare init 7.0, AppleTalk v58.0, and Sharing Setup 7.0.

  22. For the LocalTalk connection I've tried both PowerUser LocalTalk
  23. connectors from MacConnection and PhoneNet-type connectors (obviously
  24. I didn't try to combine the two types of connectors).  I've plugged 
  25. the connetors into the Printer ports on both computers (I've also
  26. tried the Modem port, but that shouldn't work, right?).

  28. I've turned on filesharing on both computers and shared both hard
  29. disks.  Then I open the Chooser and click on the AppleShare icon,
  30. which should display all the fileservers on the network.  Nothing
  31. shows up.

  33. I've read the comp.sys.mac.comm faq and the Mac manual, neither of which go 
  34. into much detail about setting up a LocalTalk network.

  36. I've been able to connect both computers to the campus-wide AppleTalk
  37. network we have here, so I don't think there's anything wrong with the
  38. Printer port.  And apparently I've got all the necessary software
  39. because I can share my computer across the campus net.

  41. What am I doing wrong?  I consider myself an experienced Mac user,
  42. but this AppleTalk thing has me completely baffled.  It seems like it
  43. should be easy to do.
