- I've had some resolution of the problems previously reported to all the
- loyal MacInTax fans in this group. Thanks are due to the ChipSoft tech
- support people, for responding by phone to my several faxed problem reports
- (the only way to report bugs free to them is via 800- number fax), not so
- much because they solved the problem, but because talking with them
- crystallized the problem for me--and I was able to isolate the bug for them.
-
- 1) Installation problems. No resolution here, yet. Read on, folks. Experience
- shows that problems were not caused by init conflicts, etc.
-
- 2) Problems importing forms from HeadStart. In the case of at least one
- form (8829), here is what happens:
- - You see two alert boxes warning you that an error has occurred, but not
- precisely telling you what the error was.
- - You go in there, poke around to try and find what forms are missing.
- - You get to Schedule C, double click on line (30?) to access form 8829, and
- nothing is there.
- - You use this nice spiffy "Open Forms" dialog box to try to get to the 8829.
- It isn't there. It never is, only an 8829 summary. This is normal. What
- is not normal is that the 8829 Summary line does not show that it is in use.
- It isn't in use, and if you open it, you will find it blank and not pointing
- to your old HeadStart 8829.
- - Ahhh...so you go back to the old "Active Forms" dialog box, an ugly dinosaur
- left over from last year's version. Voila. There is your old 8829. But it
- is not a /normal/ 8829. It is called "8829:Expenses for Business Use...",
- not "8829(1):Expenses...". This is because
- MacInTax has read in your old form, correctly as far as I can
- tell, but not linked it to anything. The values on it do not
- propagate to other forms. The program knows it's there, but can't
- use it.
- I've reported this problem to ChipSoft. They have not yet responded.
- Anyone else who gets those alerts boxes would do well to try finding
- their data the same way.. Report it to ChipSoft, and good luck.
