  44. In response to the postings regarding file time stamp issues, please
  45. consider the following:
  46.  
  47. NetWare for Macintosh does *not* alter the *data* contained in a Macintosh
  48. file that has been copied or created on that volume.  This has been verified
  49. time and time again in the field by users who successfully open/close or
  50. otherwise manipulate their Macintosh files on a daily basis.
  51.  
  52. Novell acknowledges its responsibility concerning consistant functionality
  53. across all platforms which are supported by our server(s).  The time stamp
  54. used by the Macintosh is simply different than that used by NetWare.  This
  55. difference has existed since NetWare for Macintosh has been on the market,
  56. and has been an endless source of concern.  The problems created by this
  57. disparity are ones that no company would be proud of having to deal with.
  58. Yet this is the state we find ourselves in today.
  59.  
  60. Please understand that Novell takes this challange seriously and will
  61. provide real solutions in "near future" products.  I am not at liberty to
  62. specify which product(s) will contain solutions, but anyone listening to
  63. the LAN market and our product development can probably guess which
  64. products contain the solutions to which I am referring.

  66. Finally, if you should feel that you are experiencing trouble regarding
  67. time stamps (or *any* other symptom) please contact one of us here in the
  68. Technical Support Group.  You can either send the request/description to
  69. me via E-MAIL or call our Technical Support Hotline.  All of us here are
  70. aware of these issues and strive to provide workable solutions in a timely
  71. fashion.  So please do not hesitate to ask us for specific assistance.
  72. But please do not "flame" us maliciously in a public forum as that will
  73. gain neither of us anything.

  81. PS:  Apple's 7.1 OS installer (network) *does* properly function.
  82.      Apparently they (Apple) viewed this solution (to be more flexible
  83.      on accepting even time stamps) as an easy one to implement.
  84.      If you cannot get the 7.1 installer (it should be available on
  85.      AppleLink) I can provide RESEDIT instructions for solving the problem.
  86.      Let me know if you need the instructions for this particular Installer.
