There was a intresting thread on compu$erve a while ago about the cable that
connects the drive to the motherboard being routed wrong in some T1000SE's.
This cable may or may not be your problem. You could open the computer and see
if the cable in secure in it's socket and if it has any sharp bends in it
which have caused the conductive traces to be broken.
