- Have anyone in the net ever dealt with a company named SOFTWARE OF THE MONTH
- CLUB in Carlsbad, California? They claim to ship over 1,500,000 shareware
- programs a month. Anyway, several weeks ago, a company representative told me
- that they were having a membership drive and were offering 50% discount on the
- annual membership. He told me that after the discount, $24.95 is all I have
- to paid to receive monthly shareware shipment for the whole year. Being naive,
- I gave him my credit card number over the phone instantly.
-
- Yesterday I received my credit card bill and here are two things I found wrong
- about the company:
-
- 1. When the rep asked me if I want the regular or Window version of the
- disks, I told him I want the regular version. He said he will throw
- in the Window version for free anyway. My credit card statement
- indicates that I was billed for the Window version regardless. What's
- making it worse is that except for one out of six disks from each set,
- the content of these two sets of disks are identical.
-
- 2. He also neglected to tell me that the company will automatically bill
- my credit card $6.95 (plus sales tax) each time they ship me a set of
- disks, which is twice a month according to their membership information
- kit.
-
- So, to make the long story short, I was billed for the total of $68.74 instead
- of $24.95 as I understood and must cough up $6.95 every time they mail me
- something.
-
- Since I could not reach them over the weekend, I have no idea if this is the
- way the company operates or I was suckered by a guy working on commission.
- I am planning on calling them back later this week about the situation but
- would appreciate any information about this company.
