  18. I have had the same problem (only once) with a relatively new HP48-E (I had to
  19. buy it to replace the one that was stolen :( ).  I got the calc about four     
  20. weeks ago, and had to reset it because someone (jerk) took out my memory
  21. card.  Anyway, I resetted it and said yes to the memory clear message, and 
  22. waited almost an HOUR before trying to do ON-C.  That didn't work, so I tried
  23. ON-A-F again, which didn't work.  So, I tried the reset in the back of the 
  24. calculator, and that didn't work.  I took out the batteries, and the display 
  25. sort of faded away slowly.  Really strange.  The when I put them back in, 
  26. the display had an hourglass and a single horizontal line somewhere in the 
  27. middle of the screen.  I finally took out the batteries for about a minute,
  28. and then it was OK.  Luckily I had recently backed up the RAM so I didn't lose
  29. much, but it was distressing.  I would be most appreciative to hear if anyone
  30. else has had such a problem...
