- I just got my 48sx a couple days ago. I want to hook it up to my mac, but
- I can't see paying $30 for a piece of wire. I already have fashioned a jack
- to plug into the HP, and finding one to go to my modem/printer port should
- be no problem. But could someone save me from trying 3024 combinations and
- tell me what wire goes to what wire? I saw the HP pin diagram in the FAQ,
- but was unable to locate the corresponding mac diagram. I'd also like
- any info on connecting it to a modem. I heard this is possible, but my
- modem has only 2 wires, and the HP 4. If you buy the $50 kit you get a cable
- and software. Is the software just for kermit transfers I can do with
- Microphone Pro (which I have), or is there some actual advantage to it?

- I first bought a 48S, then I took it back for a 48SX after reading a bit of
- the manual, and thought I might neet the slots someday. With the 48S, holding
- down ON-A-F would do a memory recovery, freeing up ram that failed to clear,
- and to my surprise left my variables and stack intact. It only took a few
- seconds. Then I tried it with the 48SX, and it hung. After about 5 min with
- "recovering memory" on the top of the screen, I tried doing ON-C to abort but
- no dice. It was totally frozen. I took out the batteries, put them back
- in, and the screen filled with garbage and the hourglass at the top of the
- screen. Totally hung. I left the batteries out for 10 minutes, and then upon
- replacing them it asked if I wanted to recover memory. I said yes, and it
- took about 10 seconds. Over the next 2 days I recovered memory several times
- with no problems, each time clearing a couple k. I thought the first time
- was just a fluke. But it just happened again. I have tried all the self
- tests described in the manual, but it checks out fine. The calculator works
- fine otherwise. BTW it's rom E. Has anyone had similar problems? Is it
- broken, or is there an easy fix. Like an idiot I threw out the box and
- reciept, so I'm screwed if I try to exchange it. Hmm.. maybe I can make up
- a story like it was a present....
-
- Email, or post if of general interest. I'll read it either way. Thanks.
