- With respect to EduCalc selling HP16C calculators, at the Winter CES, Jim
- Carter said (or was it Richard Nelson?) that at the rate they are selling,
- they should have a three month's supply left. However, after that, there are
- no more. Apparently, HP had more of the 16C's than they had of the 11C and
- 15C units that were "found" last year. The others sold out very quickly.
- There were 4-5 times as many 16C's found and EduCalc's supply is the last
- batch of them (from what they said). The more I used my 16C the more I
- grew to respect the machine.
- With respect to the 16C emulator for the HP48, this is a library which
- redefines the keyboard to provide FULL HP16C functionality in the HP48
- environment. The RPL stack is the same, but entry of integers does not
- require the pound-sign delimiter. However, reals may be entered and manip-
- ulated as well. As long as the real number has a decimal point or EEX in it,
- the rewritten parser knows that the desired number is to be a real and not
- an integer. Both signed (1's and 2's compliment modes) and unsigned numbers
- are supported with word sizes from 1 to 64 bits. Signed negative numbers
- in decimal base are shown as negative (with the minus sign) like in the 16C.
- The A through F keys have been moved to PRIMARY key positions on row 4 so
- ALPHA is not needed to enter hex numbers. Another mode allows scientific
- math with reals, returning the row-4 functionality to the log, trig and
- exponential functions without leaving the emulator. Ther are over 60
- functions in the library and virtually all of them are available in the
- user's HP48 programs. It is hoped that the thing makes the next EduCalc
- catalog (#59) which is scheduled to {be mailed in late February, I think.
- Since the catalogs move at a snail's pace through the U.S. mail, we'll
- have to post something later on when the library is really out the door.
- It includes floppy disk, 4-color keyboard overlay and spiral-bound printed
- manual. We're hoping to sell it for $39.95. (That's five bucks cheaper
- than a 16C and manual from EduCalc.) A ROM card based version may come later
- in the Spring.
- Hey, if we sell a few dozen, I'll be happy :-)
