- We have noted a problem with utilizing 8mm tapes on HP 9000/720 and HP 9000/375
- systems. No matter how we set the minor device number, we cannot get the
- device to rewind on close. This does not seem to depend on the tape
- manufacturer , although those we tried are all based on Exabyte 8200, I think.
- (We have RSquared and some other brand that HP recommended, even though HP
- doesn't really support 8mm, it seems.)
-
- We have had no such problem with our 4mm drives, so we feel we have a good grip
- on how the SCSI tape driver interprets the bits in the minor number.
-
- For now we have only left the special device file on the system who's name
- implies no-rewind, but I am interested in knowing if there is a solution for
- this.
-
- This is what we have:
- /dev/rmt/0m 54 0x201402 4mm with rewind on close, SCSI id 4
- /dev/rmt/0mn 54 0x201403 4mm with no rewind on close, SCSI id 4
- /dev/rmt/1mn 54 0x201503 8mm with no rewind on close, SCSI id 5
-
- trying /dev/rmt/1m 54 0x201502 does not give us rewind on close for the 8mm
-
- Thanks for any help.
