- Fortunately enough for me, most of you out there in netland realized, I was
- posting an opinion and not a fact. Having "Stupidly" deleted my .signature
- file, my disclaimer was no where to be found.
-
- Some things I think that need to be said.
-
- 1) I didn't mean to imply that I or DEC thought users were stupid. I meant
- to imply (and most people picked up on this) that in my opinion, DEC was
- just being extremely cautious by not having patches available. I personally
- feel that we need to do something to get the fixes out in a reasonable,
- timely, and efficient matter that solves customer's problems and doesn't
- cost DEC an arm and a leg. Posting them on the internet is one
- solution.
-
- 2) I think that instead of discussing it here, we should do something about it.
- I propose the following: Send me a mail message (since I've already marked
- most of the news messages as read, and came into this discussion in the
- middle,) containing the following information:
-
- Why DEC should post patches on the internet.
- How all of us would benefit from this.
- If you currently pay for telephone support how this would effect it.
- (in other words would you drop it or continue it)
- Your name and phone number complete with area code.
- If internet access is refused, what other options might work.
-
- I will collect these until Feb. 8, 1993. On Feb. 8th at 17:00
- I will take this mail and forward it on to support myself and others in their
- work to change the current policy. It may help, it may not, but it is at
- least an attempt.
