  12. Archie is a useful internet program that can help
  13. locate public domain files.  Archie maintains a database
  14. of over 1300 anonymous ftp sites and can tell you about
  15. all sites that have a particular file that interests
  16. you.

  18. To access Archie, do the following steps.  (You might want to make
  19. a script session of your interactions so that all of the information
  20. located by Archie will be recorded.)

  23. 1) telnet archie.unl.edu
  24.    (This site is in Lincoln, Nebraska.  It is Internet etiquette
  25.     not to access sites during weekday business hours.)
  26.  
  27. 2) The login name you should provide is 'archie'.
  28.    Do not type the single quotes.
  29.  
  30. 3) Type 'help' to find out what commands are available to you.
  31.  
  32. 4) Type 'prog searchstring' to find all public domain sites that
  33.    contain your searchstring.

  35. 5) Type 'exit' to leave archie.
