-
- You may use the GDOS that comes with the TimeWorks Publisher disk with other
- programs.
-
- It's mostly a moot point at this time in any case. FONTGDOS (an 'upgrade' to
- GDOS that came out around the time FSMGDOS was about to be released) has been
- made available to the Atari community. Only the fonts weren't included in the
- FONTGDOS release -- and the ones you have from TimeWorks Publisher should work
- quite nicely for that purpose.

-
- SpeedoGDOS is a new technology, and you will have to purchase the released
- version ... partly to pay royalties to BitStream for use of their font
- technology and partly to pay royalties for BitStream font families. Current
- rumor is that SpeedoGDOS will be packaged with the Falcon computer.
-
- The primary difference between GDOS and FSMGDOS/SpeedoGDOS is 'scalable fonts'.
- You don't need a physical font file for each font size of a font family. GDOS
- has some rather crude font scaling -- if you have a 12 point font you also
- have a 24 point font available --- but it is not a smooth scaling, and can be
- extremely disappointing at print time. Truly scalable fonts look good at any
- reasonable font size.

-
- GDOS fonts can be purchased, you can get fonts through the on-line services,
- and you can also check out the atari.archive server. Several GDOS fonts are
- available in the Applications/Dtp/Fonts/Gdos directory.
-
- A freely available GDOS clone from Germany is also available. Look for the
- file amcgdos.arc on the a.a. server.
-
- FONTGDOS is available on GEnie. It is also in the Printing directory on the
- a.a. server. It consists of a number of printer .SYS files, some desk
- accessories, the fontgdos.prg and a text file. There are no fonts in the
- archive.
