- Hello, all.
-
- I recently started using the minix filesystem driver along with MiNT (how did
- I get along for so long without it?), and I have a few questions...
-
- First, the version of rz that I've been using truncates filenames to 8.3.
- Does someone know of a version, in source or binary form, lurking out there
- which supports longer filenames? Other bonuses would include the ability
- to run under curses (i.e. in a window under GEM), and the ability to
- redirect messages to a file (so it can happily run in the background).
- TOS backward compatibility is not necessary. I've looked at atari.archive
- and have noted a horde of different programs in the communications
- directory, but before spending the effort to download them all, I thought
- I'd consult net.wisdom first.
-
- Second, what tools are available for checking the integrity of and fixing minix
- partitions, short of buying minix? I'm looking for something with the
- abilities of chkdisk3 from Atari. Obviously, none of the filesystem
- checkers I've run across understand inodes and such. If there is nothing
- out there (PD or commercial), any pointers to cost and availability of
- minix would be appreciated. I really don't know much about *IX
- filesystems, but is it naive to hope that fsck for e.g. BSD 4.4 could be
- made to work on an ST minix partition without major hacking?
-
- Last, and sort of on a divergent point (but anyone who's read this far is
- likely to have an interest in the answer, or to know it :-), what are the
- differences between Atari minix and e.g. PClone minix? Are patch files
- available through the net or otherwise that would allow me to convert my
- Atari minix x.y.z to PClone minix h.j.k? Would I be able to reuse my
- purchase without buying a new copy if someone were to take away my ST
- and force me to use a PClone? :-)
-
- Many thanks in advance.
-
- P.S. Have any other Atari developers noticed the evil path Atari has taken
- as evidenced by the letter which came with the developer newsletter?
- Do they honestly hope to encourage new development for the ST? Also,
- a while back, I specifically requested and got the development
- information for FSMGDOS. Atari didn't even bother to tell me that it
- had been abandoned. I first found out through the net. :-(.
